We, the members of the Bridgeport Fire Department, are dedicated to serve the people of the City of Bridgeport. We will safely provide the highest level of professional response to fire, medical, environmental emergencies and disasters, either natural or man-made. We will create a safer community through our extensive participation in Fire Prevention, Code Enforcement and Education for the public and department members. Our goal is to provide twenty-four (24) hour emergency service for the protection of life and property within a four (4) minute response time frame.

The City of Bridgeport is protected 24/7 by the professional firefighters of the City of Bridgeport Fire Department (BFD). The BFD operates from eight fire stations, strategically located throughout the city, in two battalions, under the command of a deputy chief and two battalion chiefs. The BFD operates a fire apparatus fleet of nine engines (including a Quint), four ladders, a rescue vehicle, a command Vehicle, a haz-mat unit, three marine units, and numerous special, support, and reserve units. The BFD responds to on average, approximately 10,000 emergency calls a year.
